  Heads of serpents are presented as horizontally – at each step, and also they frame on both sides of a ladder leading from the bottom to the top of the pyramid.

 The Feathered Serpent Pyramid is a six-level  step pyramid  built in the  talud-tablero  style. The structure is also known as the Temple of Quetzalcoatl. The pyramid was built at the beginning of the Avenue of the Dead.

  The outside edges of each level are decorated with feathered serpent heads alternating with those of another snake-like creature, often identified as   Tlaloc  .

  Under each row of heads are  bas-reliefs  of the full feathered serpent, in profile, also associated with water symbols.

  The facade of the temple is very unusual. It presents high relief of the big serpents heads carved in stone. They protrude from the collar of feathers. Each image of the head weighs 4 tons.
